Over the past three weeks at the the homeless camp 183…
- There are now 150 people there, up from 100 a few weeks ago, and TX Emergency say they have been asked to “cap it” at 155
- It’s no longer temporary – it’s become Austin largest gathering of homeless – and Austin’s largest Tent City
Tent Cities are a national and growing trend.
- The Governor has handed it over to ATX Helps who plans to build a 150-300 bed Sprung Shelter
- There is no running water, limited toilet and sanitation, limited electricity, emergency food supplies plus bottled water
- Donations have been arriving daily from local homeless and hunger agencies, as well as churches and individuals
- Food is being provided by Food for Good, Mobile Loaves, Keep Austin Fed, and others
- Tents, blankets, clothes, shoes and the like have been donated
- Lighter Loads ATX have been there twice – providing showers and laundry and more to all at the camp
- MLF Food trucks have been there 11 times over the past 30 days, up from 3 for the prior period. Thank you
