Steve Harrell has been homeless in Austin since 2015. He spends most of his days panhandling for money and his nights sleeping at the ARCH homeless shelter downtown.
Since Austin city leaders passed the “sit, lie, camp” ordinance in June, Steve says things have been more tense than usual.
“They honk or use profanity at us,” says Steve.
He’s not the only one noticing the difference. CBS Austin spoke to several people experiencing homelessness Monday who say the public is not as compassionate towards the homeless as they once were.
