Hungry Souls is the recipient of a $20,000 Glimmer Austin seed grant in order to provide meals to children experiencing food insecurity in the greater Austin area. The organization partners with schools to guarantee that children are able to have access to nutritious meals on weekends and during school breaks. Hungry Souls continues to meet the increasing needs of food insecure families in the Austin area.
Since March, Hungry Souls has seen an 80% increase in the number of families it serves, providing 10,500 meals a month. Hungry souls will use the grant money to accommodate families in need as well as meet the 92% increase in food costs due to the lack of food drives, increased cost of food items, and the increasing amount of food purchased.
