Glimmer Austin is excited to highlight our partner, Meals on Wheels, and their impactful COVID-19 response plan. In mid-April, Glimmer Austin granted Meals on Wheels $20,000 to continue their care for senior community members amidst the Pandemic. Meals on Wheels has gone above and beyond to make sure that nearly 3,000 homebound elders in Central Texas are cared for, providing them food, checking in on them, assessing their needs, and easing their concerns. Since March, Meals on Wheels has been able to deliver more than 250,000 shelf stable meals to homebound seniors in the community and will continue to drop off two weeks of food every other Friday to their clients for as long as there is a community need. Meals on Wheels enhances the lives of many seniors in the community, not only by providing them nutritious meals, but also by implementing the “care call” program where staff and volunteers call clients regularly to check-in on them to show they are cared and loved during this isolating and lonely time.
